i truely doubt it. can it be that you forgor a mat clean between different
configures? i would recoemment to make a "distclean", since this
removes the config.* files as well.

there is no need to dig deep. Do:
grep '#if.*AOL' xotcl*/generic/*.[ch]
how comes that you believe this?
